If you seek to bolster your technical skills, on-set experience, and confidence in film production...

If you desire to strengthen your portfolio or resume for college application...

Or if you simply want to learn more about filmmaking or become a better filmmaker for the sake of joy...

    .

    .

    .

    PRODUCTION X IS FOR YOU.

  • Every PRODUCTION X is divided into four stages. Due to the unique demands of every project, Production X is designed to flexibly stretch anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks during the regular school year (and even fewer weeks on a condensed schedule during summer/winter break).

STAGE 1: DEVELOPMENT & PRE-PRODUCTION. From storyboarding, to screenwriting, to budgeting, location scouting, (and even casting!), students learn to produce their films efficiently, effectively, and feasibly.

STAGE 2: PRODUCTION. Once everything is ready, the production is given the green light to shoot the story! The production is always done within one weekend, often within a single day. The better the pre-production, the more successful the shoot will be!

STAGE 3: POST-PRODUCTION. Immediately after the shoot, the raw footage is prepared for the editing room. This is where you bring your story to life, learning to edit, color-grade, and even sound design.

STAGE 4: DEBRIEF & SHOWCASE. Share your film! If possible, we’ll look into available film festivals and competitions to show your work on the big screens! We will also critically analyze both the film itself and the entire production process, identifying pluses and points to improve for future productions.

  • Hands-on experience is by far the most efficient, most effective, and most time-tested way to go from newbie to pro as easily as possible. And with a well-tuned, step-by-step curriculum like PRODUCTION X, can help you cut through the headache from trying to piece together your own filmmaking education via the internet.

Last but not least, at the end of every PRODUCTION X is a self-standing final product with which you can proudly add to your resume and portfolio!

“SKATE”

This PRODUCTION X is based on the required visual sample prompt from Chapman's Dodge College of Film and Media Arts for the Film Production major.

The prompt: Without using dialogue or voice-over, create a film that is under two minutes and is about a character making a difficult and dramatic decision. Show that the character is pulled in two different directions at an emotional level, visualize their process of consideration and show that they make a decision.

ABOUT

I DIDN’T go to film school. Yet, in spite of not going to film school, I still managed to grasp the art of filmmaking — from a seed of inspiration to the movie big screen — by getting my hands dirty.

Over the years, I’ve worked on sets of all shapes and sizes, shot music videos, documentaries, narratives, and commercials. I’ve also developed extensive educational curriculums for cinematic appreciation and served as the creative director for Delta Kappa Alpha’s in-house video production company.

All the while — and this is important — I was having fun! While learning my ropes as a filmmaker, I was also earning three degrees in cognitive science, sociology, and political economy, and minoring in education at UC Berkeley. That is why I know...

THE KEY to your film education is in and with your own hands. You learn to make films by making films. This is the vision and mission of Film School Taipei: to create those life-changing opportunities to learn filmmaking in the most fun, efficient, and effective way possible. The same way I learned by doing, you can do it too.

So what are you waiting for? LET’S MAKE MOVIE MAGIC HAPPEN!
